Upland is an organic fruit and nut farm on the outskirts of Wellington. The Western border is the clean, fast flowing Spruit river. From there the land rises steeply for 120m to overlook the Blouvlei valley and Wellington in the distance. The gentle slopes house the vineyards. Some sections are terraced for fruit trees, however mountain fynbos and indigenous forest are maintained in the steepest kloofs, providing a safe home for a variety of animals, birds and reptiles. The majestic Hawequa mountains dominate the skyline on the east. Because of this unique setting (together with the organic farming techniques), there is great diversity of fauna, flora and farming potential.

HistoryThe first humble mud building and kraal walls were erected in approximately 1796, to be followed by the farmhouse and large shed around 1805.
The old shed was first a schoolroom, later converted to stables, and currently hosts our tasting room. Over the years each generation has added their touch, resulting in a pleasant mix of old and new architecture. The first settlers ran a dairy and had citrus orchards, however the area soon became popular for grapes and by the turn of the 19th century the vineyards were established and a small wood-fired distillery was operational. |
FamilyUpland has been owned by the Oettle family for decades; Edmund, Elsie Jonathan, Marna and Melissa work as a team and are united in their passion for good environmental management as well as practical and healthy lifestyle alternatives.
We honour God and strive to be good stewards of the natural resources which Upland has been blessed with, whilst also showing love and respect to our multi-cultured community. |
